[WWII AU] you and your baby went to town

Waiting for Bucky's day off has been as difficult as waiting for Christmas used to be when she was a kid. And it doesn't help that they just don't seem to be able to manage time alone together after the mission – not enough of it, anyway. A few stolen kisses here and there are all she gets, even as she feels like she's burning up from pure want.

When he finally tells her, grinning, that he's gotten another R&R day, she spends the next few days in a haze of relieved anticipation. Not just at the thought of finally being able to touch him, but just because she loves spending the time with him. She knows it's a bad idea, knows it's only going to hurt so much worse down the line, but she can't stop herself, and she doesn't want to.

She doesn't ride with him into town this time. Instead, he'd told her to meet him at the little chapel he'd shown her earlier. Wilkins is happy to give her a lift, after she spends extra time and care on her hair and makeup and clothes – the civilian outfit he likes so much and which Lorraine had tried to ruin. 

She's right on time as she walks into the little chapel and looks around for him. "Bucky?"

"We did," he agrees. "Although I had a backup plan if it was raining or too messy. A little bit of one, anyway."

"Yeah?"

She rolls her head to look at him, her lips curving. "What was it?"

"Well, you might see part of it later," he returns, blandly. "And of course, there's always the movies. Those are inside, out of the muck and mire."

"True," she agrees, and amuses herself for a moment with thinking about how much he would probably enjoy a backyard movie night, or a drive-in.

She glances at the little house that sits nearby. "Did it have anything to do with that cottage?"

He turns his head to look at her, with a sweet smile. "Maybe," he allows.

She smiles back at him.

"We lay like this the first night I got here," she murmurs. "Watching the stars. Remember?"

[nerves_of_ice]

"I do," he says, softly. "I can't forget anything about you, angel."

"I couldn't get you off my mind even then."

She studies him for a moment, then shifts herself forward to kiss him, gentle and lingering.

[nerves_of_ice]

He keeps his hands behind his head, fingers laced together, willing himself not to reach for her just yet. She has the right to change her mind, and even if she hasn't she has the right to want to do other things with this day, and he refuses to do anything to overwhelm her or drown her in sensation until he's certain of her choices.

Bucky leans up into the kiss, returning it with warmth and affection and longing of his own.

She can taste the wine on his lips and smell the sunshine on his skin, and even without him touching her at all, his kiss takes her breath away.

Sharon pushes herself up and leans over him to kiss him again, her hair falling over her shoulders and around his face in a cloud of gold as she does.

He's only a man, and he'd dare any man to resist this much temptation. Carefully, he slides his fingers into her hair, cradling her head between his hands, and kisses her back.

She teases him with the tip of her tongue, then nips his bottom lip before soothing it with another kiss, savoring the feeling of his fingers in her hair.

"You look so good, lying here in the sun," she murmurs. "What a handsome devil you are."

A low groan escapes him as she bites his lip, and he draws her in for another kiss.

"Look who's talking," he manages. "You're gorgeous, angel."

She kisses him again, lips parting, feeling familiar warmth beginning to bloom in her gut as she shifts to lie next to him, stretching herself out along his body.

"You're impossible," she murmurs. "God, Bucky, do you have any idea what you do to me?"

“Well, if it’s anything like what you do to me—-“

He turns toward her, running one hand slowly down from her shoulder along her side to her hip, and kisses her again.

"I hope so."

She makes a small sound against his mouth as his hand strokes over her and slips her own hand behind his shoulder, her arm around his.

[nerves_of_ice]

“You’re so beautiful,” he murmurs between slow, lazy kisses. Bucky keeps stroking his hand along her body, being scrupulously careful not to venture beyond her side.

“I keep thinking this is a dream, and I’ll wake up.”

"Me, too."

There's no way she can explain how impossible it is to be lying here as Bucky Barnes tells her she's beautiful and wanted, as he holds her and kisses her. "If it is, I don't ever want to wake up."

“Dream with me, then,” he suggests, and kisses her again as he curves his hand over her shoulder and coaxes her closer.

She presses against him willingly and kisses him back, warm and sweet and lazy, soaking in the sun and the warm, dappled air and the feel of him in her arms. Sharon runs her hand down along his back and up again, curling her fingers over his shoulder to hold him close.

Slow kisses, sweet kisses, long and lingering and in no rush to set the embers between them to wildfire. Bucky learns all over again the taste of her mouth, the feel of her under his hand, the silk of her hair against his fingers, and falls even more under her spell.

It feels unbelievably luxurious to kiss him without worrying that anyone's going to walk by and see, and she lets herself sink into it, his taste and his touch and the simmering warmth between them.

"I'm really glad you asked me out again," she murmurs, when the next one breaks, and presses her lips gently to his. "I've been really looking forward to it."

“I’m glad you said yes,” he murmurs back. “I’ve been wanting you in my arms like this for ages now.”

"Oh yeah?"

She nibbles at his lip, teasing. "Just like this?"

“To start,” he agrees, as a shiver runs through him and he kisses her again, more deeply this time.
