He glances down the table at where Sam's regaling them with stories of his sister's baking while Steve listens, then gives Sharon a quiet smile.

"It went well," he says. "A little similar to some work Sam's done back in D.C., only with more of a high-profile lens given the givens. But it helps for the vets to know that they're not alone."
